MY TOP 5 TV THEMES

MY TOP FIVE TELEVISION THEMES

It’s been on my mind for quite a while to do a write up about TV themes I grew up with, as thinking back to when I used to watch these programs as a child brought back the feeling of excitement that you felt when the shows you liked were scheduled to come on that evening.

The themes to these shows ( in my opinion) added to the excitement & anticipation of what that weeks episode might hold, & I felt these themes really fit the programmes they were composed for nicely.

Anyway, on with my top five.

5. –  THE PROFESSIONALS

This track instantly came to mind as I thought it was kick ass.

The composer for this theme was British composer named Laurie Johnson.

He’s done tracks for TV & Films some of which include This Is Your Life, Jason King, The New Avengers & the musical Lock Up Your Daughters.

4. – THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO

Another killer track for me.  My favourite version of this theme is by an American composer named Pat Williams.  It took me yeeeeaaars to find his version of the track which I feel is the best.

Pat Williams is also a TV & Film composer who did the theme for the TV show Columbo & films The Best Little Whore House In Texas & Cry Baby.

3. – BATTLESTAR GALACTICA

I remember coming across this track on a CD way back & I decided to get it because I know I would not find this again anytime soon.

This theme was done by an American composer named Stu Phillips

Stu Phillips is a composer for TV & Films & is also a record producer.  He did the theme for Buck Rodger In the 25th Century, The Hardy Boy’s/Nancy Drew Mysteries (Another one of my faves), Automan & Highwayman. (Which a lot of my mates don’t remember.lol).

2. – STARSKY & HUTCH

I’m not too sure who did the theme for this but I’m sure it was by the saxophonist & composer Tom Scott who was also the band leader in the band The L.A Express.

Tom Scott worked with a lot of big names in music,  some of which were Paul McCartney, Whitney Houston & Quincy Jones.

I also believe that Lalo Schifrin, another big name in TV & Film soundtracks also did the theme to Starsky & Hutch at some point.

1. – TJ HOOKER

Now, I know that if my mates saw me writing this right now, loads of them would prob be laughing big time, but I would tell em, don’t lie…you all loved the theme & show aswell.lol

I’m not sure who did the theme for this show either, but what I’ve found online, it was done by a composer named Mark Snow who also did the theme to Hart to Hart.

Well there you have it, five theme’s I love without shame.
